Man: Rare Footage

Ain't Their Fight (1973)

Did you see that fabulous BBC 4 show the other night featuring classic performances by British rock bands of the early 70's? If you missed it, get over to iPlayer as soon as you can, it was a sheer delight. The most amazing clip, for this here fan, was this film of Welsh rock supremos, Man, from 1973. 'Ain't Their Fight' (the video is titled incorrectly) is a track from their fine double album, Back Into The Future (1973), featuring the guitar and vocal skills of the immortal Micky Jones. Hey, BBC! We need the rest of this!

I thought of you when I watched this on the iPlayer last night. I wasn't sure if this was rare footage, but as the programme was an interesting mix of the classic and the lesser-known, I knew there was a good chance that it was. 40 years on and there are still gems in the vaults.

Yes! Mr SDS is quite a Man fan and was chuffed to see this too. And what about Babe Ruth as well?

The Swede: There was some stuff, wasn't there? My particular favourites, other than Man, were Alex Harvey, Family and Roy Young (who is utterly new one me). Shame they couldn't squeeze in some Edgar Broughton Band, a bit of Pink Faires or some VdGG. Makes you wonder what othetr gems are in the vault??? I wonder if they kept all the OGWT episodes? Let us have them!

C: Mr. SDS is a Man fan? Wonderful! We need to stick together. As for Babe Ruth, that was just classic. I had was quite taken aback by Jenny Haan's 'brickie' is a sparkly cat suit stance! Great voice.

Indeed, SB. He bought the Man comp 'Keep On Crinting' recently and I've heard the twenty-minute live version of 'Spunk Rock' more times than I would personally have chosen to...

Love that about Jennie Haan's 'brickie in a sparkly cat suit stance' - it was a bit unnerving, but still good!

Btw, my muso husband bought two DVD box sets of the German 'Beat Club' which includes studio performances by Edgar Broughton Band and VdGG (no Pink Fairies but there is some Man - 'Would The Christians Wait Five Minutes...') but I just asked him about this and he is fairly sure that EBB, VdGG and PF never appeared on OGWT sadly...

Have to agree I sat down with a nice whiskey expecting to see a load of clips i'd seen a hundred times before. but what a surprise loads of great bands.
I had completely forgotten about Babe Ruth and yes like you was totally mystified that i'd never ever heard of Roy Young !
